The Qarhan Salt Lake area has a high concentration of airborne salt, which readily deposits on railway traction power supply catenary equipment, causing circuit breaker tripping and even widespread power outages, thereby increasing the risk of train‑operation safety incidents. To ensure the smooth operation of the Qinghai–Tibet Railway, the Golmud Overhaul Workshop of the Xining Power Supply Section of the Qinghai–Tibet Group Company will carry out a 20‑day cleaning campaign on traction power supply equipment in sections affected by salt contamination within its jurisdiction.
The Qinghai–Tibet Railway traverses the Qarhan Salt Lake in Haixi Prefecture, Qinghai Province, making it the world’s first railway built on a salt lake. This roughly 33-kilometer stretch is also known as the “Ten-Thousand-Zhang Salt Bridge.” Due to the high salt content in the air over the Qarhan Salt Lake, salt deposits readily accumulate on the railway’s traction power supply catenary system, triggering circuit breaker trips and even causing widespread power outages, which can lead to serious train‑operation safety incidents. To ensure the smooth operation of the Qinghai–Tibet Railway, the Golmud Overhaul Workshop of the Xining Power Supply Section under the Qinghai–Tibet Group Company will carry out a 20-day cleaning campaign on the traction power supply equipment in salt‑contaminated sections along its route.
